Moving Day – Our Second Airbnb in Sarande (Albania)
Our first month in Sarande (Albania) was lots of fun, and we were really happy with the Airbnb we rented.
But we had to move to a new place for our second month in Sarande.
Why did we move? And what is our second Airbnb like?
Read on to find out!
So Why Did We Move?
Simple.
We have friends coming to visit!
Although we could have put guests on the convertible couch at our last Airbnb, we prefer that they have their own bedroom.
We figure that if our friends are willing to pay the expense to get to us, the least we can do is put them up in their own space!
As luck would have it, our host for our first and second Airbnbs was the same person. This was nice because he does a great job outfitting his Airbnbs and is extremely responsible. And he even helped us move to our new apartment, 500 meters away.
Welcome To Our Second Airbnb in Sarande!
As usual, we found our long-stay Airbnb in Sarande using the detailed methods described in our post: A TTT Guide to Long-Term Airbnb Stays – How to Get a Cheap Apartment that Doesn’t Drive You Crazy.
Our Airbnb is on the third floor of an apartment building just east of the Sarande coastal promenade, only a 5 minute walk away.
It is a two-bedroom apartment (unlike our last Sarande Airbnb), so it is perfect for when our friends arrive.
You enter a long hallway from the entrance, with a coat closet and storage cabinet for stuff. At one end of the hall is our kitchen and common room area, and at the other are the bedrooms and bathrooms.
The kitchen and common room are all part of a large common space for all things involving food and social activities.
The kitchen is extremely well appointed, with all of the fancy pots, pans, kitchen utensils, and plateware that Rhonda likes. We have a big refrigerator, oven with a 4 burner stove, Aeropress, expresso machine, and a microwave (!) which is a rarity in Albanian apartments.
Although there is good storage for everything I mentioned, there is an odd lack of non-perishable food storage space. So we just put all of that in the hall storage.
The living room space has a MASSIVE sectional couch that could easily seat eight people, a large, wall-mounted panel TV, a heater/AC unit, and a large coffee table. It is a fantastic space to entertain guests.
The dining table is a good size and has 4 padded chairs. Very comfortable space for group dining. And if we need more chairs we can always get some from our balcony.
Attached to this space through the sliding glass doors is our large balcony with a waterfront view.
The view from the balcony is possibly even better than in our last Sarande Airbnb! This will be a great space to hang out when the weather permits.
At the other end of the apartment is our master bedroom with a queen-sized bed, two nightstands, a wall-sized wardrobe for our stuff, a small desk, a heater/AC unit, and a wall-mounted TV.
The master bathroom has all of the usual stuff, as well as a washing machine. And the extra large shower is a nice upgrade from our last place.
The guest bedroom has two single beds that can be easily moved together if desired. There is also good closet storage, a nightstand, and a heater/AC unit.
And the guest bathroom is similar to the master bathroom, minus the washing machine.
So for all of this, including utilities and 80 Mbps download speed internet, we are paying $27.93 USD per night (including a 75% long stay discount).
A good wintertime deal to be sure for a two-bedroom/two-bathroom place with a view, but we have since figured out how to get even better deals for apartments.
By making cash deals directly with the landlords!
After knowing about this for years but being too nervous to go to an area without housing completely planned, we finally took the plunge and made a deal.
More on that next month. 🙂
Until next time…
