Quick Update – A Time of Transition
It’s finally time to leave Cuenca, Ecuador! We had a wonderful stay in Cuenca and can see why so many people rave about the place. If you are ever in Ecuador, try to spend at least a week there! You won’t be sorry.
But it’s time for us to move on.
Now we will be entering a crazy time of transition, unlike anything we have experienced so far. Hopefully, we’ll survive, but we have our doubts.
We decided to write about our plan for the next week because our relocations will be quite different than what we have done in the past.
That, and we’ll be so busy that I’m not sure how much free time I will have to write!
We’ll see.
The evening of the day this post goes live (Wednesday) we will be taking a night bus back to Quito, Ecuador, where we will be spending three nights.
Night buses are always an adventure. Hopefully this time there will be no military intervention.
Since we will only be in Quito for a short time, we decided to live it up a bit and stay in an Airbnb apartment near Parque La Carolina, a place we really liked the last time we were in town. The apartment complex even has a pool, hot tub, and sauna!
We’ll need the spa time as our upcoming travel schedule is pretty brutal.
After our stay in Quito is over, we will be taking a red-eye flight to Panama City, Panama to visit the final country in our year 1 travel plan. Hard to believe we are in the home stretch of Year 1!
And yes, there will be a Year 2 travel plan. More on that later.
When we land in Panama City, we will be staying in a shared Airbnb (with a private bedroom and bathroom) for 4 nights. And its location in the El Cangrejo neighborhood is perfect to allow us to explore the city in the time we have.
When our stay in Panama City is over, we will take a bus (and possibly multiple taxis) from Panama City to the sleepy Panamanian coastal town of Pedasi.
In Pedasi we will be staying in a room at an environmental NGO for a month.
Hopefully, this will be a fun and relaxing stay that will give us a lot more time to explore the Pacific coast. That, and we are hoping to do some environmental science volunteer work at the place we are staying at.
We’ll see how that all plays out.
But the week leading up to Pedasi is going to be a whirlwind! Very unlike our normal slow-travel lifestyle to this point.
So that is our plan for the next week! Staying in three new places in two countries over seven days should be exciting, but more than a little stressful.
And we do hope to get at least one more Ecuador-specific post out when all is said and done. But if we can’t follow through on that, you’ll know why.
Wish us luck! The next seven days are going to be crazy.
Until next time…

Thank you! We are going to celebrate over an Indian food dinner before the madness begins.
Here’s some endurance wishes coming your way. Another adventure underway. Will be waiting for your report on how the week went.
Thank you! We’ll definitely make sure we keep everyone informed.
