Our New Hi-Rise Airbnb in Panama City
As frequent readers have known for some time now, we made our way back to Panama City from Bocas del Toro province and have settled in nicely. But there were so many posts I needed to catch up on from our travels that I never had time to show everyone our Airbnb in Panama City!
But that ends today.
We are living in a hi-rise apartment in the La Cresta neighborhood of Panama City, with excellent proximity to public transportation, shopping opportunities, and touristy stuff.
The price is a little high for us, but the perks make it well worth the extra expense, especially since in September and October our accommodation costs will be low.
Strategic splurging makes sense under the right set of circumstances.
So come take a look at our new digs!
How Did We Get To Our Airbnb in Panama City from Bocas del Toro Province?
It wasn’t exactly easy, but it went very smoothly. For those wanting details, check out our detailed post covering how we made the journey.
The La Cresta Neighborhood of Panama City
Our apartment is right on the edge of the La Cresta neighborhood of Panama City, within easy walking distance to the more bohemian El Cangrejo neighborhood we stayed in when we first arrived in Panama.
Our place is very close to the intersection of Avenida Central Espana and Calle 50, two major roads passing through the city. Shopping opportunities are close by, so it is easy to get supplies without wasting an entire day.
We are also close to TWO metro stations, so public transportation is quick and easy from our location. We literally can go anywhere in the city, by metro or bus, from our place with relative ease.
And if we are up for it, we are within walking distance of the Ciclovia shoreline walkway which is safe and pretty. Although hot to walk during the day, we absolutely mean to take an evening walk on it one of these days.
Bottom line, the main appeal of our Airbnb is location, location, location!
Oh, and it is comfortable too.
Let’s take a look.
Welcome to Our New Airbnb in Panama City, Panama!
As usual, we found our long-stay Airbnb in Panama City following the detailed methods we describe in our post: A TTT Guide to Long-Term Airbnb Stays – How to Get a Cheap Apartment that Doesn’t Drive You Crazy.
Our 1 bedroom apartment is located on the 14th floor of a 34-floor modern hi-rise building.
After getting off the elevator and entering our place, you immediately see a well-appointed kitchen, with a full stove, refrigerator, stacked washer and dryer, and dedicated sink for cleaning.
The kitchen works well. But for some reason, the kitchen sink always seems to get us soaking wet when washing dishes! We think the faucet is a little too powerful relative to the depth of the sink.
Continuing past the kitchen area, you see the brightly lit living room with windows, a sleeper couch, a small dining area, and AC. It is a comfortable place to hang out, although the table could have been a little larger for the space. Works well enough though!
From the living room, you pass through a door that leads to our bedroom. The bed is queen-sized, and the mattress and pillows are AWESOME! Nightstands on either side of the bed (with electrical outlets) are also appreciated. And the closet/wardrobe setup is more than adequate for two people.
And finally, the bathroom is nicely laid out, with a really good shower setup. The sink/vanity setup is also very functional for our needs.
The building has a small gym on the first floor, and a pool + “hot” tub patio area on the top floor.
The gym is nothing to write home about, but the pool area is really nice!
Sadly, the “hot” tub really never gets any warmer than lukewarm, but it is fun to enjoy the bubbles!
And the view from the roof is killer!
So for all of this including utilities and gigabit speed internet, we are paying $39.90/night (with 30% long-stay discount). This is the most expensive Airbnb that we have booked so far!
Hopefully, it won’t become a habit.
But the extra expense is well worth the convenience of location to key amenities. It is so easy to step out for a few hours, pick up the Metro, and go to the largest mall in Central America (Algood Mall). Or to the historical district. Or to ferries out to distant islands. Or to museums and restaurants. Or to national parks. Or to Tocumen International Airport.
You get the idea.
If we stayed in a less centralized location, we’d likely live a much more hermetic life for not much less money at the end of the day.
All things considered, we are quite pleased with our Airbnb in Panama City.
Until next time…
